Taking a Stand Against Violence

Yesterday, I called on all candidates for the Republican nomination against Tom Perriello to stand against violence and for civility in politics. So far, Laurance Verga, Ken Boyd, and Feda Morton have all stepped up to set a strong example as conservatives who strongly disagree with Tom Perriello and are working to remove him from office, but doing so through the ballot box, not by using the bullet box. The Jefferson Area Tea Party, based in Charlottesville, has also condemned the violence. So have our Governor, Bob McDonnell, and our Attorney General, Ken Cuccinelli, have also stood up against this attempt at intimidation. The Roanoke Times has the story.

Gov. Bob McDonnell echoed Perriello's beliefs that any problems with Perriello's performance should be handled at the ballot box.

"I certainly condemn anybody using any acts of vandalism or violence to express their opinion," he said. "That's not the way we do business in Virginia."

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, who has a following in the Tea Party movement, called the posting of Perriello's brother's address "appalling."

"I think that is way over the line," he said. "I don't think it's close. It's an appalling approach. It's not civil discourse. It's an invitation to intimidation."

But the NRCC's Andy Sere wants to make sure we don't forget that Tom Perriello isn't the victim.

While his organization doesn't condone such behavior, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Andy Sere said Perriello is not the victim.

"Central and Southside Virginians are the ones who are going to have the bear the burden of increased taxes," he said. "What you're seeing is a frustration among his constituents who believe he's not listening to them."

Yes, Central and Southside Virginians will suffer. But to claim that Perriello isn't the victim, when the lives of his brother and his brother's family are in danger, is deeply offensive. It's just the sort of out of touch and anti-family comment I've come to expect from the jerk who attacked Rick Boucher for missing votes because his mother was on her deathbed.

A day after all of the Charlottesville area candidates managed to come out against threats of violence, where is Robert Hurt? Is Hurt too busy fundraising at the end of the financial quarter to make a statement? Is he too worried about coming out in opposition to the antics of the Danville Tea Party, which have been condemned by the local paper? Is this just how they do things down in Southside? Or maybe Hurt's going to let a spokesman explain everything for us because he's too afraid to do anything on his own?

  1. How about Rep Eddie Cantor having his Richmond office shot up with a bullet and multiple conveyed threats because he is a Republican and a Jew?

It seems to me that a directed bullet causes more of a victim than a hamburger grill blowing up on the back porch! Yet, no one is taking Cantor's victimization seriously!

Now, as to your obviously blatant attempt to blame this also on Robert Hurt, let me ask YOU a few questions:

-since you know so much, please tell us
EXACTLY what Hurt was doing in the last 24 hours. I'm sure you have no idea!

-was Hurt fundraising? Please provide EXACT details as to where and when!

-provide proof that Hurt was worried about upseting the Tea Party. Obviously, you believe he controls them when, in reality, NO ONE controls ANY Tea Party group!

-please explain the depth and bredth of your vast knowledge of how WE "do things down here in Southside". If you have such great disdain on how we do things here, please tell your benefactor VERGA that he can write us off and just concentrate on the ultra-libs up your way!
I believe that would be most appropriate because YOU are his "spokesman (to)explain everything for us because he's too afraid to do anything on his own? "

  2. By the way, please explain why your benefactor VERGA has now earned the title of biggest 5th district flip-flopper with his contrary stands on uranium mining in Pittsylvania county, where we have unemployment exceeding 20%+ in some areas and where you northern liberal pseudo-conservatives have near-nothing unemployment.

The mining will bring 300 to 500 needed jobs and VERGA earlier said he was in favor of this and supported this type of energy in OUR county. Now, he has sent an email to anti-uranium mining troopers saying he is OPPOSED to uranium mining in Pittsylvania county. So, he obviously is a UMINO (Uranium Mining supporter in NAME ONLY).

If you want to make this election, as you appear to do, a contest between us here in Southside versus you northern liberal pseudo-conservatives, you WILL LOSE.

Come June's election day, you guys will be too busy going to classical music concerts, art festivals, and wine tastings to actually come out and vote! We will put our plowing, chicken-feeding, pig-roasting, and tobacco-pulling off for the day just so we can beat you northern libs. Just try us, sonny!

  3. VAPatriot, please provide me with evidence that Verga has flipped on Uranium Mining. Thanks. Very, very interested.

Also, "It seems to me that a directed bullet causes more of a victim than a hamburger grill blowing up on the back porch!" Is true. Too bad it wasn't a directed bullet.

Of course Hurt is fundraising right now. It's almost the end of the quarter. That's how campaigns work. Anyone with any knowledge of campaigns knows that.

  4. So, NAS, if your statement...."Hurt is fundraising right now. It's almost the end of the quarter. That's how campaigns work.'....is true, then ALL the candidates were fundraising! Yet, as usual, you chose to only berate Hurt instead of your benefactor VERGA and the other candidates. You are just so transparent, it's pitiful.

As to VERGA's flipflop, I have seen the actual email from him to the "anti-uranium groupies" in Pittsylvania county. But, surely, with your close relationship with VERGA it would be easy for you to just pull it up from his SEND folder on his email account.

Satisfy yourself; go look at it!

  5. Of course Verga was fundraising, but he still managed to find the time to make several strong public statements to the press about the need to end threats of violence. Hurt couldn't do anything but a post on Facebook and Twitter a day later. His campaign manager actually directed reporters to those websites instead of making a public statement. LAME!

  6. "couldn't do anything but a post on Facebook and Twitter"..........souinds more like NotAndySere than Robert Hurt for the last 7 days!

Did I scare you and Verga away?
